ROCHESTER, Minn. – The University of Northwestern softball team opened its season Saturday with a pair of games inside the Rochester Dome. The Eagles dropped their opener to Luther College, 8-1, before falling in the nightcap to Carleton College, 10-1.
In the opener, the Eagles battled Luther through the first three innings, trailing 2-1 heading into the fourth. Luther than put up a three spot in the fourth and never looked back, grabbing the first game of 2016, 8-1.
Jennifer Ankrom (New Hampton, Iowa/New Hampton) finished with two hits at the plate to lead UNW.
Morgan Pfaff (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) was tagged with the loss in the circle, tossing 4.1 innings.
In the second game of the day,
Lauren Silbernick (Osakis, Minn./Osakis) got the nod in the circle, as the junior hurled four innings. She surrendered 11 hits and four earned runs, striking out a pair.

Megan Threlkeld (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville) led UNW at the plate, as the shortstop went 2-for-3 and accounted for the Eagles' lone run, coming across to score in the fifth on a
Morgan Pfaff (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) RBI groundout.
