Eagle offense successful in 4-1 conference win

Box Score

ASHLAND, Wis. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer notched its highest-scoring performance of the season on Friday, thanks in part to an active offense that outscored Northland College 4-1. Lauren Cleope (Manila, Philippines/Faith Academy) and Jordan Skarin (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo ) both picked up credit for two goals scored in a half as the Eagles secured their first road victory of the 2013 campaign.

UNW forced offense early, posting five shots before Cleope made it six with a score just 7:27 into the contest. Again, the momentum continued in the favor of the visitors, but the Northland defense was able to fend off any other scoring opportunities until 33:43 when Kirsten Aderton (Rochester, Minn./Schaeffer Academy) delivered to Cleope for both her personal and the team's second goal of the game. Both squads left the field for halftime with the Eagles holding possession of a 2-0 margin.

As the second period began, things remained much the same with Northwestern pushing the ball towards the Lumberjill back line. Northland returned the favor, but a Jordan Skarin (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo ) successful boot put the Purple and Gold up by a trio.

The home team showed its own scoring abilities with just under 12 minutes remaining, but Lindsay Halvorson (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) found Skarin with less than a minute remaining to secure the final outcome in favor of UNW.
Heading into Friday's contest Cleope and Skarin had combined for just one goal, but Friday was a different story 12 shots resulting in four goals scored. The pair of assists from Aderton and Halvorson also marked the first of the season for each Eagle.

Throughout the 90 minutes of play the visiting team on the scoreboard made 15 more offensive attacks than its opponent, while also earning eight more corner kicks. Defensively, Emily Johnson (Esko, Minn./Esko) was able to fend off seven Northland shots en route to the victory.

Northwestern (2-3-1, 1-1-1 conference) will look to even its win-loss total on Saturday as it takes the field in Duluth, Minn. for a 2:15 p.m. matchup with the College of St. Scholastica. Live stats and video will be available for the contest and can be found here, courtesy of the Saints.
