Minnesota Morris outlasts Eagles in 4-0 contest

Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team faced an early deficit and could not make a comeback Friday afternoon, dropping a 4-0 loss to the University of Minnesota Morris in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) match. The visiting Cougars dropped a pair of goals in each half to secure the game in their favor.

Minnesota Morris forced the tempo early, earning two corner kicks in the first 10:08 of play, and then found the back of the net for the first time 13:08 into the game. UNW held strong on defense for nearly the next 20 minutes but another Cougar goal kept the offensive game of the home team on the back burner.

As the whistle blew to start the second half, things appeared to be different for the Eagle faithful with Lauren Cleope (Manila, Philippines/Faith Academy) making her way towards the goal with a pair of shots. Queue the 55th minute, however, and the score was increased to 3-0 in favor of UMM.
The Purple and Gold's offensive run dimmed a bit in the next time frame, as with the clock reading 74:53 the visitors would mark its final tally of the game to leave the score at 4-0.

After a first half total with no shots, the Eagles posted three in the second half but the total was still short of Minnesota Morris' 16. UNW saw defensive stops from both Emily Johnson (Esko, Minn./Esko) and Miranda Carda (Andover, Minn./Andover) as the pair combined for seven of the team's nine total saves.

With the loss, Northwestern's record moves to 2-5-1 overall and 1-3-1 in UMAC play. The Eagles will have a chance to get back on the field on Saturday as they host Crown College in the second match of a doubleheader. The game will get underway at 2:15 p.m. and can be followed via UNW's live video stream
