ST. PAUL – In its last game at Reynolds Field, a quick rally of scoring by the University of Jamestown forced the University of Northwestern women's soccer team into a tough position Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles were down 2-0 at halftime before ending the game on the short end of a 3-0 final mark.
Although the Jimmies were the first team on the offensive, earning six corner kicks within the first 20 minutes, Northwestern held strong on defense to keep the game scoreless. UNW notched its first attempt on goal at the 20:21 point of the first half but the attack would end in a save for the visiting team.
As the clock rolled down to 33:20, Hannah Langseth broke the tie for Jamestown, sending a ball into the back of the net. Fast forward 49 seconds later and the Jimmies would once again get on the board courtesy of a Langseth goal. The pair of fast tallies proved to be a game-shifter as the teams headed into halftime with a 2-0 score in favor of the visitors.
The tempo remained the same for the squads in the second period, with Jamestown holding most of the momentum. The squad from North Dakota would notch its final goal of the contest at the 58:50 time stamp to secure what would eventually be the final outcome. Although UNW was able to earn more offensive opportunities, it was not enough to change the deficit as the daylight began to dim.
The Jimmies posted 25 shots on the day in comparison to the Eagles' 7, while the home team picked up 17 saves in 90 minutes of action.
Northwestern (5-12-1, 4-7-1 conference) will cap off its regular season campaign on Friday and Saturday with away matchups with Crown College and the University of Minnesota Morris. A 1 p.m. start time is slated for Friday's game, while Saturday's competition will begin an hour earlier at 12 p.m.
