ST. PAUL, Minn. – After starting the season with five consecutive road games, the Northwestern College women's soccer team found success in Thursday's home opener against Northland College. The Eagles remain unbeaten in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play after scoring twice in the first half, giving the home team a 2-0 advantage over the Lumberjills.

Northwestern's first goal came just past the 21-minute mark when Sarah Scinto (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) scored the first goal of her sophomore campaign off a Roxanne Holmberg (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) assist. The Eagles continued the theme of spreading out their scoring among the team when Rebekah Carrizales (Anoka, Minn./PACT Charter School) earned her first goal of the season within 17 minutes of Scinto's shot, securing a 2-0 lead for NWC. After Thursday's win, the Purple and Gold have now had seven players score in a 2012 game

The home team on the scoreboard posted an offensive advantage in the contest after outshooting Northland 28-4. The Eagles also bested the Lumberjills in corner kicks, posting nine compared to the visiting team's two.

NWC goalkeeper Emily Johnson (Esko, Minn./Esko) earned the shutout victory, her second of the year. Johnson was supported by a Northwestern defensive effort that allowed just two shots on goal in 90 minutes of play.

After a quick day of practice the Eagles (3-3 overall, 3-0 conference) will travel north to Duluth, Minn. for a matchup with the College of St. Scholastica Saints. The Saints possess a 4-3-1 overall record and have gone 3-1 in UMAC competition.
