Women's soccer falls to Hamline

Box Score

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Northwestern College women's soccer team was unable to get its offense rolling Tuesday evening in a non-conference contest against Hamline University. The Eagles finished on the short end of the 0-3 final score after posting just one shot in 90 minutes of play.

NWC held off five Hamline shots in the first half before the Pipers netted their first goal at the 26:35 mark after a corner kick translated into a goal for the home team. The 1-0 score held until just over nine minutes into the second period when Hamline scored off a penalty kick, increasing their lead by two. The Pipers scored again within three minutes, leaving the Purple and Gold with a three-goal deficit.

After scoring seven times in two games last weekend, Northwestern was unable to muster a goal in Tuesday's contest. The Eagles were outshot 23-1, including 13-0 on goal.

Sarah Stenson (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) and Emily Johnson (Esko, Minn./Esko) shared time in front of the net, with Stenson posting six saves and Johnson earning four.

After starting the 2012 campaign with five straight games on the road, NWC (2-3-0 overall, 2-0 conference) will return home to Reynolds Field on Thursday, when the team matches up against Northland College in a 2 p.m. Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) competition.
