Women's soccer drops opening game to Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Northwestern College women's soccer team was not able to pull off a victory in its season opener against Augsburg College Friday evening. The Auggies outscored the visitors 2-0, leaving the Eagles scoreless for the 2012 campaign.

The Auggies first goal came at the 16:23 mark when Olivia Muyres found the back of the net. The home team scored off a defender deflection in the second half, pushing their lead to two goals.

Junior goalkeeper Sarah Stenson (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) tallied nine saves in her first start of the season, including six in the opening half. Augsburg outshot the Eagles 24-4 and had seven corner kick opportunities, compared to Northwestern's zero.

NWC (0-1) has a week of practice before the team returns to the field Friday, September 7, for a 4 p.m. matchup against their Snelling Avenue neighbor, Bethel University.
