Kirby's two goals not enough in loss to St. Kate's

Box Score ST. PAUL -- The Northwestern College women's soccer team put its first goals of the 2011 in the net, but the Wildcats of St. Catherine University were too much in a 4-2 loss for the Eagles. NWC's Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) earned credit for both of the Eagles' goals in the game.

Kirby kicked back-to-back goals past Wildcats goalkeeper Abbey Hinton in the ninth and 11th minutes of the game, putting Northwestern up 2-0 early in the game. St. Kate's' Bri Coulter countered Kirby's offense with a pair of consecutive goals of her own in less than two minutes' time to tie the score at 2-2 heading into halftime. The Wildcats turned on the offense even more in the second half, adding the eventual game-winner and an insurance goal at 52:16 and 89:17 to cap the 4-2 victory.

St. Kate's doubled the Eagles up on shots on goal 13-6, keeping NWC goalkeeper Tara Hanson (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) busy in front of the net. Hanson finished the game with nine saves.

Northwestern, now 0-2 early in the 2011 season, will return home for a day of practice before hosting Concordia University-St. Paul at Reynolds Field on Friday afternoon for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
