Despite overloading Bethany Lutheran with shots, Women's Soccer settles for 1-1 tie

Box Score MINNEAPOLIS – Northwestern College pummeled Bethany Lutheran College with shots on Saturday afternoon, but the Eagles were forced to settle for a 1-1 double overtime tie with the Vikings at Augsburg College's Edor Nelson Field.  NWC owned a 24-3 advantage in shots, but only one of them made it past goalkeeper Alexa Mowery.

Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) had Northwestern's lone goal on the day as she headed in Heidi Anderson (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Walnut Ridge Academy)'s (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Walnut Rdige) corner kick at the 56:44 point of the second half. Bethany scored the game's first goal, a tip-in shot from Joelle Pipal in the 47th minute, so Kirby's shot was the equalizer.  With her goal, Kirby inches closer to Northwestern's all-time goals record. The senior currently has 60 goals, one shy of tying Kyrie Jorgenson (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah)'s record of 61 goals scored.

Despite not losing the game, the tie doesn't help the Eagles' chances in the race for the UMAC regular season championship, as NWC now stands a game and a half back of the current leader, College of St. Scholastica.  Northwestern, now 9-4-1 overall and 7-1-1 in conference affairs, will shift its attention to a nonconference game against Hamline University at Reynolds Field on Tuesday, which is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
