ST. PAUL -- A pair of second half goals put Northwestern College behind for good in its NCAA Tournament debut as the Eagles lost to Concordia College-Moorhead 2-0 at Macalester Stadium. Sarah Rounds scored both of the Cobbers' goals, first in the 49th minute and then in the 84th minute, to advance her team to the second round of the NCAA postseason.
Tara Hanson (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) posted 12 saves for Northwestern while allowing the two goals. Despite the goals, the Eagles defense played one of its best games of the season. Bridget Piche (East Grand Forks, N.D./East Grand Forks), who was recently named to the UMAC All-Conference First Team for the third time in as many years, was all over the field to help her team, stopping many Concordia chances.
The Cobbers held a 15-4 advantage in shots on goal throughout the 90-minute contest.
Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) had two shots on goal for the Eagles. Susan Scheil (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) and
Kyrie Jorgenson (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) each also had a shot on goal. Jorgenson is one of two seniors who will depart due to graduation in May.
With the loss, Northwestern finishes its 2010 campaign with a final record of 13-9.
