Kirby & Co. help Eagles increase UMAC streak to nine

Box Score

ST. PAUL -- For the second straight game, Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) scored two goals within the first 13 minutes as Northwestern College won its ninth consecutive UMAC game after a 6-1 win over Crown College. Mother Nature didn't play nice throughout the 90 minute contest, but the Eagles managed to out-shoot their opponents 15-1 en route to the victory.

Kirby's first goal of the game, which came in the 8th minute, was assisted by Shannon Sopher (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale) (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale). Kirby then scored her team-leading 17th goal of the year less than four minutes later to put the home team up 2-0.

Lyssa Hester (Mantorville, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville) (Kasson, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville) got in on the action after halftime, extending NWC's lead to 3-0 after taking a pass from Rebekah Carrizales (Anoka, Minn./PACT Charter School) (Anoka, Minn./PACT Charter) at the 47:01 mark. Carrizales herself scored on an unassisted play from the left side in the 52nd minute.  Lindsay Halverson (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) and Samm Ellingson (Apple Valley, Minn./Rosemount) (Apple Valley, Minn./Rosemount) each scored goals too while Crown's Rachael Kieffer snuck one of her own in between them.

Northwestern had 14 corner kicks on the day, compared to none for the Storm.

Sarah Stenson (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) and Emily Johnson (Esko, Minn./Esko) (Esko, Minn./Esko) each saw time in front of the net for Northwestern to share the victory.

The Eagles improve to 10-7 on the season and 10-2 in UMAC play with a pair of big conference games coming up this weekend. Northwestern will host Northland College on Friday, Oct. 29 at 3:30 p.m. before welcoming the College of St. Scholastica to town on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m.
