Women's Soccer posts 4-1 victory over Bethany Lutheran

ST. PAUL -- Northwestern College won the first game of its Friday-Saturday doubleheader, defeating Bethany Lutheran College 4-1 at Reynolds Field. Freshman Lauren Cleope (Manila, Philippines/Faith Academy) (Waterloo, Iowa/Faith Academy) recorded two goals in the victory.

The Vikings' Paige Taylor scored her team's first and only goal in the ninth minute as she fired a shot from 25 yards out that found the back of the net to put Bethany Lutheran up 1-0. Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) scored the equalizer for Northwestern in the 37th minute after taking a pass from Heidi Anderson (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Walnut Ridge Academy) (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Walnut Ridge Academy) and beating goalkeeper Alexa Mowery.

Northwestern continued its offense after halftime, pouring on three goals within 16 minutes. Kyrie Jorgenson (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) scored her fifth goal of the season at 65:26 before Cleope tallied back-to-back scores in the 75th and 81st minutes.

Kirby earned an assist of Jorgenson's score before Lindsay Halverson (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) and Samm Ellingson (Apple Valley, Minn./Rosemount) (Apple Valley, Minn./Rosemount) were credited with assists on Cleope's goals.

Northwestern held their opponents to just two shots in the game, only one of which was on goal.

The Eagles, now 3-6 overall (3-2 UMAC), will return to Reynolds Field on Saturday for a 12 p.m. game against Martin Luther College.
