Box Score

ST. PAUL – The Northwestern College women's soccer team owned a 2-0 lead over NCAA Division II Concordia University-St. Paul before yielding three unanswered goals to the Golden Bears, losing 3-2 at Reynolds Field.  The Eagles had a strong showing in their first game of the 2009 season, battling a Concordia squad that tied the No. 5 team in Division II last weekend for 90 minutes.

Kyrie Jorgenson (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) started 2009 right where she left off in 2008, scoring NWC's first goal of the season in the game's 12th minute.  Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) received a great upfield pass from Courtney Davis (Council Bluffs, Iowa/Abraham Lincoln) (Council Bluffs, Iowa/Abraham Lincoln) before finding Jorgenson to her left to complete the 2-on-1 play.

The Eagles added to their lead at the 31:23 mark, as Kirby capitalized on a corner kick to give Northwestern a 2-0 lead.  Receiving assists on the goal was a pair of freshmen in Tina Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) and Heidi Anderson (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Walnut Ridge Academy) (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Walnut Ridge Academy).

Concordia scored its first of three goals in the game in the 35th minute when Arielle Stimson received a pass from Katie Johnson.  The Golden Bears' Kari Janes followed with back-to-back scores in the game's final 15 minutes to account for the 3-2 final score.

Northwestern was out-shot 13-6 in the game by Concordia.  Northwestern goalkeeper Rhonda Morgan (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) tallied eight saves in front of the net.

The Eagles (0-1-0, 0-0-0 UMAC) will be back in action on Monday, Sept. 7 when they face Bethel University in Arden Hills, Minn.  Kickoff against the local rival is set for 2 p.m.
