ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Northwestern College women's soccer didn't have much difficulty playing on a different home field, as the Eagles dealt a 6-1 loss to Bethany Lutheran College on Saturday afternoon. NWC, who played its home game at Mounds View High School due to poor conditions at Reynolds Field, received a pair of goals from both
Kyrie Jorgenson (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) and
Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial).
Jorgenson got things started for the Eagles, scoring a goal at the 7:34 mark. Not long after, Kirby increased Northwestern's lead to 3-0 with back-to-back goals at 8:28 and 10:22. Kirby, who assisted Jorgenson's first goal, received assists from
Heidi Anderson (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Walnut Ridge Academy) (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Walnut Ridge Acaemy) and Jorgenson.
Tina Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) and Anderson rounded out NWC's scoring in the first half, scoring two goals within 51 seconds of one another in the 42nd minute, giving the Eagles a 5-0 lead at the break.
Jorgenson scored her second goal of the game ten minutes into the second period, heading in a corner kick from Anderson to account for Northwestern's total of six goals in the game.
Bethany Lutheran's Kristin Renner ended the Eagles' bid for shutout in the 77th minute when she scored after a defensive miscommunication for Northwestern.
Kirby's two goals put her at 21 for the year, setting a new single season record at Northwestern. Kirby broke Jorgenson's mark of 20 from 2007 one day after Jorgenson set the program's career scoring record.
Northwestern tallied 14 shots in the game compared to just three for Bethany Lutheran. The Eagle defense kept the Vikings in check as BLC (7-10-1, 3-8-1 UMAC) was unable to record a shot on goal throughout the 90-minute contest.
At 8-3-2 in conference play (8-7-2 overall), Northwestern is currently fourth in the UMAC standings. The Eagles will have a pair of games against Crown College next week -- the first of which is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at Reynolds Field on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
