MANKATO, Minn. -- The Northwestern College women's soccer team battled Bethany Lutheran College for 110 minutes on Friday afternoon, but couldn't put the winning shot past Vikings goalkeeper Katie Renner, as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) scored the Eagles' only goal of the game, putting an unassisted attempt past Renner at the 19:27 mark. After holding a 1-0 lead at halftime, Bethany's Maggie LaPlante tied the game with a goal in the 49th minute.
Despite NWC holding a 36-11 advantage in shots, neither team was able to score a goal after LaPlante's, and the Eagles and Vikings settled for a double-overtime 1-1 tie.

Kyrie Jorgenson (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) had 13 shots alone for Northwestern while Heidi Anderson (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Walnut Ridge Academy) (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Walnut Ridge Academy) added five. The Eagles held a 10-0 advantage over their opponents in corner kicks.

Northwestern moves to 2-4-2 overall in 2009 and 2-1-2 in the UMAC. Bethany stands at 2-3-1 in conference play after the tie. The Eagles will play Martin Luther College on Saturday in New Ulm, Minn. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
