Women's Soccer routs Minn.-Morris

Box Score

ST. PAUL – A 25-minute delay in the start of Saturday's game at Reynolds Field didn't hurt the Northwestern College women's soccer team, as the Eagles posted a 5-0 victory over the University of Minnesota, Morris.  Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) had a hat trick for Northwestern, improving her season's goal total to 15.

Anna Hilden (Minnetonka, Minn./Southwest Christian) (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) scored the Eagles' first goal of the game at the 31:39 mark, taking a pass from Kyrie Jorgenson (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) to put a header past Minnesota-Morris' Emily Jacob.  Despite the Cougars owning a 6-4 lead in shots, NWC led 1-0 at halftime.

Kirby started her offensive parade in the 48th minute, scoring back-to-back goals within three minutes to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.  Jorgenson assisted Kirby's second goal after putting her initial shot off the crossbar before Kirby scored on the rebound.

Hilden added her second goal of the game in the 73rd minute, scoring after a Heidi Anderson (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Walnut Ridge Academy) (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Walnut Ridge Academy) assist.  Kirby added Goal No. 3 on the day seven minutes later, and the Eagles cruised to a 5-0 win.

Northwestern won the final shots tally with a 10-9 advantage while also besting the Cougars in corner kicks, 4-2.

Rhonda Morgan (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) earned a shutout in front of the net after recording three saves.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 5-4-2 overall and 5-1-2 in UMAC play.  Morris slips to 6-8 overall (5-4 UMAC) following the loss.

Northwestern will take a few days off before coming back to Reynolds Field for a non-conference game against Wisconsin-River Falls on Wednesday, Oct. 14.  That game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
