MINNEAPOLIS (Aug. 28, 2008) -- The Northwestern College women's soccer team held Augsburg College in check for most of Saturday evening's game. However, the host-Auggies scored just two minutes into the game, and held on the rest of the way for a 1-0 victory.
Augsburg, who has made the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) playoffs each of the last four years, took the early advantage at the 1:51 mark, when Gaby Hamerlinck scored off of Courtney Gamrath's corner kick. The game was a back-and-forth battle after that, but no more goals followed, and Augsburg held on to their second 1-0 shutout in as many nights.
The Auggies held a strong 18-3 advantage in shots, but Northwestern's combination of
Rhonda Morgan (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) and Sara Kubiszewski (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) - who both made their Eagles debut - held Augsburg to only one goal.
Amy Green (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls),
Kyrie Jorgenson (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) (Decorah, Iowa.Decorah) and
JoBeth Dietz (Pompano Beach, FL/Westminster Academy) (Pompano Beach, Fla./Westminster Academy) had Northwestern's shots in the game.
The Eagles will take a brief break before resuming their season's schedule on Wednesday, when they travel across town to play Concordia University. That game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
