Women's Soccer wins eighth straight UMAC game

ST. PAUL (Oct. 17, 2008) – The Northwestern College women's soccer team scored a goal in each period on Friday as they defeated Northland College 2-0 at Reynolds Field. Kyrie Jorgenson (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) had both scores for the Eagles, who improved to 9-5-0 overall and 8-1-0 in the UMAC with the win. After a loss to the College of St. Scholastica on Sept. 19, NWC has won every conference game since, six of which have been shutouts.

Jorgenson's first goal came at the 10:07 mark, as the sophomore made a great move within 10 yards to the right of the net to beat her defender and goalkeeper Brittany Ballwanz. Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial) assisted on the goal.

After a 1-0 halftime score, Jorgenson struck again in the 51st minute, taking a pass from Anna Hilden (Minnetonka, Minn./Southwest Christian) (Minnetonka, Minn./Southwest Christian) to make the score 2-0.

NWC keeper Rhonda Morgan (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) and the rest of the Eagles' defense did their job for the remainder of the game to preserve the shutout. Morgan had one save in the game.

Northwestern owned a 14-4 advantage in shots in the game, nine of which were on goal.

The Eagles will now have their chance at revenge on Saturday, as St. Scholastica comes to Reynolds Field for a 12 p.m. matchup. The game has large implications, as a Northwestern win would put them in a tie for first place in the conference. A win by St. Scholastica would almost assure them of a UMAC championship.
