Jorgenson Passes Johnson's Record in Loss to St. Scholastica

Box Score

Spring Lake Park, Minn., Oct. 19, 2007
– Facing off against a 15-win team wasn't an easy task for the Northwestern College women's soccer team, as the Eagles took a touch 1-4 loss to the College of St. Scholastica on Friday afternoon at Spring Lake Park High School. Playing at a different location due to an unplayable Reynolds Field didn't help the Eagles squad, as the Saints are a rather quick team – and artificial turf makes them faster.

Kyrie Jorgenson (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) got things started early for Northwestern, as she put a shot past CSS's Kelly Momsen in the sixth minute to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Jorgenson's goal was assisted by Nikki Seviola (Circle Pines, MN/Centennial High School) (Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial).

Northwestern's lead didn't last long though, as Sarah Bartlette had an unassisted goal at 11:41 to knot the score at one. Kristen Stangel added another goal for St. Scholastica at 20:07, giving the Saints a 2-1 halftime lead.

Just as the Eagles were attempting to implement their ideas from the halftime talk, the Saints scored two goals within the first three minutes of the second half. Sara Olson scored at 46:14, and Angie Groh added a goal at 47:28 to ultimately seal the deal for St. Scholastica, as they went on to win 4-1.

Jorgenson's goal moved her into first place all-time in Northwestern's history for goals in a season. Her 20 goals passed Cyri Johnson's mark of 19, set in 1999.

Rebecca Miller (Milton, WI/Milton High School) (Milton, Wis./Milton) had 12 saves in goal for Northwestern in the loss.

Northwestern, currently at 7-8-1 overall (7-5-1 UMAC), will take on another team on turf, hosting Northland College at Mounds View High School. Saturday's contest begins at 2 p.m.
