Ashland, Wis., Sept. 21, 2007 – It was a “welcome back” game for the Northwestern College women's soccer team Friday evening, as two second-half goals by junior captian
Nikki Seviola (Circle Pines, MN/Centennial High School) (Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial) brought the Eagles back to a final 2-2 tie with conference foe Northland College. Seviola, last year's leading scorer for NWC, had been unable to compete for three weeks due to a preseason injury.
Just ten minutes into the contest, Northland's Sarah Strobino scored her fourth goal of the season, followed by a goal from Amanda Seely to give the Lumberjills a 2-0 halftime lead.
Seviola's show started in the 54th minute, as she took advantage of a penalty kick opportunity to score her first goal of 2007. 30 minutes later, Seviola scored again, courtesy of a pass from
Michelle Jacobsen (Chaska, MN/Southwest Christian) (Chaska, Minn./Southwest Christian), ultimately knotting the score for the remainder of the game.
Karen Kruse (Bloomington, MN/Kennedy) (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) had ten saves in 120 minutes.
Shots were aplenty in Friday's contest, as Northwestern had 34 compared to Northland's 26. The Lumberjills were able to rack up 12 corner kick opportunities, while the Eagles countered with a mere two corners.
After their first tie of the season, Northwestern moves to 2-2-1 (2-0-1 UMAC) in 2007. The Eagles have a formidable foe lined up for Saturday, as they take on St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
