Eagles Earn First Win of 2007 on the Road

Box Score

Mankato, Minn., Sept. 14, 2007
– 16 shots, one goal and two assists isn't bad for an individual's third collegiate game, not to mention their team's first victory of the season. This was the case of Northwestern College freshman Kyrie Jorgenson (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) and her fellow women's soccer teammates, as the Eagles defeated Bethany Lutheran College for their first win of the season on Friday afternoon. The victory came that much sweeter for NWC, who opened their Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) schedule against the Vikings.

Much was the same story for Michelle Jacobsen (Chaska, MN/Southwest Christian) (Chaska, Minn./Southwest Christian), who was credited for two of her team's goals on Friday, including Northwestern's first goal of the season. It didn't take long for the freshman to score, as she barely broke a sweat before putting a shot past the Bethany Lutheran keeper 51 seconds into the game. Jacobsen also added the Eagles' fourth goal of the game in the 81st minute.

Jorgensen made her move at the 13:41 mark, scoring on an unassisted goal. Bethany's Jenny Enger scored her team's only goal in the 22nd minute before Northwestern continued with their offense, as Anna Hilden (Minnetonka, Minn./Southwest Christian) (Minnetonka, Minn./Southwest Christian) and Jacobsen scored again in the second half. After the Eagles' first two goals were unassisted, Jorgenson was given credit for assists on the final two scores.

Eagles' goalkeeper Karen Kruse (Bloomington, MN/Kennedy) (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) had five saves in her first collegiate win.

NWC Head Coach Josh Pettit had to be happy with his team following their first win in 2007, especially as the team is still without their top goal scorer from 2006 in Nikki Seviola (Circle Pines, MN/Centennial High School) (Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial), who has been injured thus far. Northwestern crushed their opponents in the Shots column Friday, holding the upper hand in a 27-11 tally.

At 1-2 (1-0 UMAC) this season, the Eagles continue their weekend road trip on Saturday, when they travel to New Ulm, Minn. to face another conference foe in Martin Luther College. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
