Womens Soccer Shut Out By Augsburg In 2007 Debut

Box Score

St. Paul, Minn., Aug. 31, 2007
—The Northwestern College (NWC) women's soccer team started the 2007 season on a rough note Friday, falling to Augsburg College 6-0. Northwestern was without two of its top scorers, and it showed, as the Auggies maintained control of the ball for a majority of the game.

Augsburg's Lacey Hoover kicked things off 15 minutes into the contest, scoring from the right side off an Angie Neuhaus assist. Eight minutes later, the Auggies scored another two goals, as Kelsey Watsabaugh and Whitney Holman scored 90 seconds apart to increase the margin to 3-0. Kelley Schreiber added another goal to cap off a four-goal first half for Augsburg, leaving the Eagles beside themselves on where to regroup.

Not a minute into the second half, at 45:47, Watsabaugh struck again with another goal to increase the Auggies' lead to 5-0. Jackie Keller added Augsburg's icing on the cake ten minutes later to make the final margin of 6-0.

Northwestern was shattered in the shots column, as Augsburg held an astounding 49-to-1 advantage. The Eagles defense performed well, but just wasn't able to contain the Auggies' strong offensive pressure. Freshman Karen Kruse (Bloomington, MN/Kennedy) (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy), who started her first game in goal for NWC, recorded 21 saves.

The Eagles will need to perform well on the road in the near future, as they won't return to Reynolds Field until September 28th. Head Coach Josh Pettit's crew, who stand 0-1 on the season, will hit the road next Saturday, when they travel to neutral-site Morris, Minn. to take on Iowa Wesleyan for a 3 p.m. bout.
