DULUTH, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's track and field team opened up its 2018-19 indoor season at the College of St. Scholastica Indoor Opener Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles boasted a plethora of first year athletes who debuted their collegiate careers and competed well at St. Scholastica's Burns Wellness Commons. Sophomore
Darrell Myles (Covington, La./Covington) slated a sixth place finish in the 60-meter sprint, crossing the line in 7.26. This time puts him tied for eighth in the all-time indoor records at UNW. Myles also competed in the long jump – posting a 9th place finish (5.82m).
Taking on the triple-jump in his first indoor appearance, freshman
Jamon Howard (Fargo, N.D./Fargo South) posted an impressive third place finish, jumping 12.37 meters. Howard's jump lands him on the current NCCAA indoor qualifying list and fifth on UNW's all-time indoor performance list.
Competing in the 400-meter sprint, freshman
Spencer Goodwin (New Richmond, Wis.) ran to a ninth place, 56.55 finish, while a trio of Eagles grabbed 4th, 5th and 6th place finishes in the men's 800 finals.
Tristan Thompson (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer) crossed in 2:16.53,
Jacob Wesselink (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar) posted a 2:22.11 and
Brent Reller (Melrose, Minn./Melrose Area) crossed the line in 2:23.12.
Rounding out the events for the Eagles was thrower,
Kyle Meinke (Victoria, Minn./Southwest Christian). The sophomore hurled a 12.22 meter throw to post a fifth place finish in the shot put. His 14.11 meter weight throw earned him a sixth place finish, and a current NCCAA qualifier mark. Both events showcased career bests from Meinke.
The squad will compete next at the Warren Bowlus Open on Saturday, January 26, in Menomonie, Wis. Competition in set to get underway at 12 p.m. For more information, fans should visit www.unweagles.com.
