Cross Country 1976-'79, Track 1977-'79, 1981
To his teammates he was “Bugsy”, a pacesetter and an example of hard work and consistency. To his competition he was the rabbit to chase. And they rarely caught him. In cross-country, Tim anchored a conference championship squad each of his four seasons, finishing first in every conference race from 1977-1979. He earned NCCAA All-American honors in 1976 and again in 1978 when he placed second at Nationals covering five miles in 25:52. Tim was also a member of two national track championship teams in 1977 and 1978, and scored points at nationals all four years. Two of his distance records still stand. In 1981 he clocked a 32:17 10K and in 1976 his Distance Medley Relay team broke the tape at 10:56.
Tim also set a fast pace away from the competition. From 1976-81 he played a lead role in raising scholarship funds through Northwestern’s 24-Hour Relay. In 1978 he was one of ten runners who took turns running a mile each in racing a record 246 miles.
