The 1977 Northwestern Track & Field team punched its name in the record book in style, as the Eagles were the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCA) National Champions after putting together an illustrious season. The Eagles boasted six NCCAA All-Americans during the spring of 1977. Nate Balzer earned recognition for his contributions in the mile relay, while Paul Christopherson was a member of the same relay. In addition, Phil Christopherson garnered All-American awards in the mile relay, 440 relay, and the 440 yard dash. Kenroy Wipf owned the short distance events, racing to All-American honors in the 100 yard dash, 220-yard dash and the 440 relay, while Waldean Wall earned the same accolades in the 440 relay and mile relay. Brian Budish (long jump & triple jump) and Pat Muro (shot put & javelin) paced the Eagles in the field events after being named All-Americans in their respective events. Brian Budish was also a member of the record setting All-American 440 relay team.
