Cross Country 1983, Track 1984-'87
Joy Showalter could run back in her day, and the Northwestern record books prove it. A standout athlete for the Eagles from 1983-87, Showalter was honored as the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Track and Field Championships MVP in 1984, taking home three medals including first place in the 400-meter race. Her accomplishments earned Showalter NCCAA All-American accolades twice, adding to the five letters she received from Northwestern. In all, Joy still owns a piece of the Eagles’ history, as she holds three records as an individual and three more on relay teams.
Since her record-setting days on the track, Joy has created a legacy of her own in her family, at work and in her church. Loyalty is a theme in Joy’s life, as she has been employed by Donaldson Company for 20 years. She’s been a lifelong, active member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and is committed to her husband and their family. Joy also plays saxophone in the Minneapolis Police Band and enjoys vacationing to sites across the United States.
