Now is the Right Time to Soar!
I am excited to be a part of the Soar Campaign for Eagle Excellence! As a former Northwestern student-athlete, and now a staff member for over 14 years, I know first hand the positive impact athletics and recreation have on our students.
As we begin a new era as a university, our continued growth and an increase in participation in athletics and intramurals make it clear that now is the right time for this campaign.
During the past 10 years, we converted athletic spaces for critical academic needs, which reduced the availability of athletic and recreation facilities. The old Riley Gym now consists of state-of-the-art classrooms and computer labs, and parking spaces replaced the tennis courts to prepare for the Billy Graham Community Life Commons. Yet, during this same time, we have added new sports and grown to a record number of students participating in intercollegiate and intramural athletics!
The lack of adequate athletic facilities has resulted in six of our 18 intercollegiate teams moving off campus to high school or neighborhood venues, requiring them to practice at sporadic times of the day whenever facilities are available. In addition, many of our intramural and recreational offerings have been significantly reduced.
But here's the exciting news: the new and expanded facilities outlined in the Soar campaign will bring our displaced teams back on campus and allow us to expand our varsity teams, intramural sports and physical education programs. It will also give Northwestern the ability to expand the number of Christian camps and clinics we offer to the community.
Your investment in the Soar campaign is an investment in the physical and spiritual well-being of our students, both now and in the future.
Together, we can ensure that future generations of Eagles will have the opportunity to participate in athletics and recreation to the glory of God, while earning their degrees and preparing for the careers to which God has called them.

We serve a God of the possible! We serve a God who asks us to come before His throne with our needs. With that spirit, we are gathering together to commit the Soar Campaign for Eagle Excellence to the Lord through prayer.
