Football Unable to Overcome Early Deficit at MacMurray

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The University of Northwestern football team (2-4, 2-3) suffered a 22-9 loss Saturday at MacMurray College (6-0, 5-0). The Eagles trailed 16-0 at the half before getting on the board in third.

The unbeaten Highlanders struck with a five-yard field goal late in the first quarter before adding touchdowns via a 10-yard pass and eight-yard run in the second quarter to hold a lead at the locker room.

In the second half, Ben Lyons (North Olmstead, Ohio/Ohio Distance & Electronic Learning Academy) split the uprights from 15 yards out to cut the deficit to 16-3. Chazz Middlebrook answered back with a one-yard touchdown run to make the score 22-3. The final score came with 5:48 to play, when Taylor Lindahl (Watertown, S.D./Watertown) found freshman Tyson Green (Santa Clarita, Calif./Golden Valley) for a 15-yard touchdown, the first of Green's career.

Lindahl finished the day 10-of-23 for 128 yards, while Payton Bowdry (Minneapolis, Minn./South) covered 57 yards on 16 rushes. Evan Pruitt (Temecula, Calif./Rancho Christian High School) and Spencer Steel (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Homeschool) hauled in three receptions each, with Pruitt recording 45 receiving yards and Steel 26.
