Box Score 2 DULUTH, Minn. — The University of Northwestern softball team lost 1-0 to the University of Minnesota Morris and won 5-4 over Crown College Friday afternoon in the first day of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament.
GAME 1: UNW 0, UMM 1In the first game of the UMAC Tournament, the Eagles hit 6 for 26 against Minnesota Morris. With both teams struggling to earn a run, the Cougars finally broke the silence in the bottom of the sixth.
Lauren Silbernick (Osakis, Minn./Osakis) went 2 for 3 at the plate, hitting .308 in game one. Silbernick only allowed seven hits in her six innings on the mound for the Purple and Gold, compared to the last time the Eagles played the Saints, allowing 11 hits.
Game 2: UNW 5, CC 4 Crown was the first to take the lead with a single run in third off a single RBI. Northwestern's Lokke responded right away in the bottom of the third with a double hit down right field, scoring in Threlkeld. The Storm had a huge run in the fifth inning with three runs, putting the score at 4-1 as the Eagles had a three run deficit.
Fortunately, the Purple and Gold saved enough steam to make a comeback. In the bottom of the fifth, Threlkeld scored again due to Lokke's trip to first thanks to a fielder's choice. Ankrom was the next to score for the Eagles as Brahan singled through the left side. With only one run down, UNW kept momentum going in their favor as Threlkeld capitalized on her next at-bat, doubling to left center as Guerkink ran home, tying the game at fours. Northwestern moves on to play tomorrow at 11 a.m. in Duluth, Minnesota for day two of the UMAC Tournament. The Eagles will face the host, the College of St. Scholastica.
