ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern women's tennis team won its third straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) match in 9-0 fashion on Friday in a defeat of Martin Luther College at the Johnson Tennis Complex on campus. UNW had little trouble with the Knights, with three of the nine matches coming in as a shutout.

Karen Moe (Fargo, N.D./Fargo South ) sat out Friday's date due to per prior participation in the ITA regional tournament back in September. Moe's absence was hardly an issue: Northwestern won all three of its doubles matches in 8-0, 8-1, and 8-2 finishes while
Birdie Bardwell (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) swept Martin Luther's Rachel Riediger 6-0, 6-0 in Moe's usual spot, No. 2 singles.
Tina Matetich (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) was also a 6-0, 6-0 winner in her No. 5 singles match, playing up from No. 6 singles with Moe not playing.
Courtney Lawlor (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) played in UNW's No. 6 singles spot and defeated the Knights' Melissa Stibb 6-0, 6-2.
Northwestern will hit the road right away on Saturday morning for another UMAC match at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minn. Saturday's start time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
