ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern men's track and field team had a great afternoon and evening of weather to compete in the Tom Cat Twilight meet hosted by the University of St. Thomas.
ResultsLeRoy Malone (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) turned in solid performances in his sprint events, placing 11th of 22 runners (11.67 seconds) in the 100 meter dash. Malone also topped the Northwestern contingent in the 200 meter distance, finishing in 23.67 seconds for a 13th place finish.
Jordan Spahr (Pine City, Minn./Pine City),
Jacob Fettig (Waconia, Minn./Waconia), and Andrew Friederichs also competed in the 100 meter dash.
Spencer Steel (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Homeschool) took 14th place running in the same 200 heat as Malone, finishing in 24.15 seconds.
Steel also ran in the 400 meter distance, placing sixth at 51.93 seconds. Friedman's 400 time of 53.45 seconds was good for ninth.
Going to the mid-distance events,
Wil Maki (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) placed fifth in the 800 meter run, crossing the finish line in 1:55.79 in the 21-man event. Nick Lubben also ran in the 800, finishing in 2:03.91 (15th place).
The top running finish from a pure numbers standpoint went to sophomore
Kyle Anenson (Chanhassen, Minn./Chanhassen), who took third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.77 seconds.
Connor Wohlenhaus (Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian), another 400 participant, finished the 110-meter hurdles in sixth with a 16.83 second performance.
Chris Compton (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park) had a solid outing in the field events, taking second in the discus competition at 40.87 meters. Northwestern's
Ayeir Karnwie-Tuah (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) and
Baruch Fischer (Silver Bay, Minn./William M Kelly HS) both participated in the discus and shot put, going seventh and eighth in the shot put at 12.57 and 12.18 meters respectively.
UNW will return to action on Saturday as the Eagles compete at Concordia University in St. Paul.
