Plenty of Top 5s, new record for Eagles at UMAC Championship

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's track and field team took fourth place at Saturday's Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championship, earning 43 points, several top five finishes to go with a new school record.

Jordan Skarin (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo ) produced a second place finish in the 100 meter dash while finishing fourth in the 200 meter sprint. Skarin's 100 meter time was 13.15 seconds, not quite a half-second ahead of teammate Jocelyn Moses (Wausau, Wis./East )' 13.64 second time. Adding some obstacles to the track, Emily Howe (Des Moines, Iowa/)'s 100 meter hurdles performance of 17.02 seconds was good for a fourth place qualification. Skarin, Moses, Howe and Kirsten Aderton competed together in the 4x100 meter relay event, placing third after their 53.34 second time.

Brittany Dellinger (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake Christian) crossed the 1,500 meter finish line in fifth with a time of 5:45.59. The Eagles' Charissa Wedin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) and Abby Swanson (Edina, Minn./Minnehaha Academy) also ran in the 1500 meter event. Doubling the distance, Lisa Greenslade (Pine Island, Minn./Pine Island ) came in fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase at 13:43.97.

Karina Nordrum (Pine City, Minn./Pine City) participated in all three throwing events, setting a new Northwestern record in the shot put. Nordrum's hurl of 12.20 meters topped her own previous mark of 12.1 meters that was set on April 9. The junior also placed fifth in the hammer throw (39.67 meters) and sixth in the discus (33.75 meters).

The College of St. Scholastica won the day with 292 points, followed by a second place finish from the University of Minnesota Morris, who earned 200 points. Bethany Lutheran College finished third with 46 points, and Martin Luther rounded out the five-team field with 32 points.

Northwestern will start to wind down its 2014 season on Friday, May 9 at the Eagle Open hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. That meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
